Hippeastrum 'Papilio' seedlings
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:32:19 PM »
I planted some hippeastrum 'Papilio' seeds last year in October. 4 of 5 of them germinated. 2 of these 4 were white and died eventually. Now these last two are 3.9 inches and I need advice to how to keep them happy and growing. I have them in a cool room with lots of light at the moment, but I am not sure if this is the best place to keep them? Perhaps they like it a little warmer when in growth?

It is Hippeastrum papilio and not 'Papilio'. This species comes from a subtropical region in Southern Brazil. Cool  conditions will encourage  the seedlings to go dormant.
Alberto Castillo, in south America, near buenos Aires, Argentina.
