Hans, page 98. Davis says (page 98, end of first paragraph) "According to Kamari (1982), populations of reginae-olgae from Sicily did not belong to subsp. corcyrensis". I assumed  from that statement that Kamari had actually studied populations of reginae-olgae on Sicily. But maybe she didn't.

Davis also says (page 98 paragraph 3) "Galanthus reginae-olgae occurs predominantly in Greece.......it also occurs on the Ionian island of Corfu , on Sicily...."

Of course I have no personal experience of reginae-olgae in the wild, and therefore I'm not saying that Davis is right  ;)

Martin

thanks
I suppose that Kamari means G.reg. olgae grows on all this localities ....but she means incl. also the ssp. vernalis .
An I think Davis means the same on page 98
I dont know if Davis has visit Sicily ...but Kamari has after her work not seen this plant outside of Greece .

In year 2000 I have also visit in fall the Taigetos mts. and found two populations of G.reg. olgae

I suppose Davis could mean that. He doesn't make it very clear, does he?  ;)

Guys! See later Aaron's treatment of Galanthus - Davis A. P. The genus Galanthus – Snowdrops in the Wild / M. Bishop, A. P. Davis, J. Grimshaw // Snowdrops. A monograph of cultivated Galanthus. – Cheltenham : Griffin Press, 2001. – Chapt. 2. – P. 21-22:
"Galanthus reginae-olgae occurs in the south-western part of the former Yugoslavia, mainland Greece, Corfu, the Peloponnese, Italy, Sicily, and probably Albania." (BOTH!!! subspecies occur on Sicily....)

I have never anybody met who has found personly a autumn flowering snowdrop on Sicily .....so I dont believe all was written is in those books ....one person after the other write it ...but there is no proof !
I have seen there Galanthus flowering in December - but thats for me a early flowering G.r.o. ssp. vernalis .

Please read here : http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7047.0
Pancratium grows in the mediterranean area ...Pamianthe is from Peru

Hans

I suppose any Mediterranean species would grow? Yes Hans, it's not Pancratium but seeing your avatar reminded me of it.

I just came across this post when I was googeling
I collected a few years ago some Galanthus reginae-olgae ssp reginae-olgae from Sicily
on a new location
Sure they grow on Sicily
I also collected Galanthus reginae-olgae ssp vernalis from Sicily
They just start flowering here

I can send seeds as soon as they are ripe for those who are interested
last month I found also a twin flower from Galanthus reginae-olgae ssp vernalis on Sicily
