Combined Alpine and Urban Vacation in Europe?
« on: March 09, 2012, 02:22:47 PM »
My wife and I are in are early 60's, in reasonable shape, and would like to take a 2 week vacation in Europe where we can spend a few days (3-5-7) in the Alps or Dolomites or ... relaxing, walking and seeing lots of alpines and then the rest of our vacation closer to urban centres.  We wouldn't be able to vacation until the beginning of July and I really have no idea where we could go to be assured of seeing lots of alpines in bloom.

While in the mountains a semi-guided trip would be probably the best, while we would be on our own during the rest of the trip.

I've taken a look at some of the travel sites Ingraham's "Mountains and Lakes" vacations, etc.  but am only left more confused with the array of choices.

I've also noticed that many SRGC members have done loads of travelling to view alpines and am interested in any suggestions you may have to offer my wife and I on what you feel might meet our requirements.  Looking forward to your responses.

Hello,

Austria might be the answer to your question.

Especially Salzburg and the Großglockner region or Innsbruck and Zillertal or Ötztal.
And for Canadian standards Vienna is not far from both.....

We have quite a lot of snow this season - so July is not too late for the higher alpines
