We need to ask more questions!

A few queries about using the forum. When I went to FAQ (frequently asked questions) in the help section, there aren't any. Do we all know it all (except me)?
So here are a few:
What is a sticky topic?
The stats for users online at present says '38 Guests, 21 Users (3 Spiders)'. Is Maggi aware that spiders are watching?
How do I set it so that I am notified by email again when I have a personal message?

The  FAQ section is a new feature of the updated forum .... it may not be something we use.... there are the help topics from the previous forum version so they may suffice.


A sticky topic here is the same as in the previous forum... it is a topic that on of the modrators has "stuck" to the top of the list of topics, to keep it in the public eye.

Fred has adjusted the settings to show the "spiders" reading the forum... these are robots sourcing info from the forum .. for example this is how the likes of Google gain the info for our search engine ranking.
Since he has done so I have taken to sitting here with a can of Flit.

Looking at your profile, Anne, it seems that there has been no change to the setting for you to receive an email when you get a pm. I have added a request there for you to receivea pop-up message as well... that may help.
I've done the same for myself to see how it works. I've been getting my emails about pms and so I'm not sure why you might not have being doing so.

Hi Fred - it wasn't a complaint!! I appreciate everything you do for us.
I'm still not getting emails to tell me if I have a personal message. Is there a setting somewhere I need to set?

As I said earlier, Anne, your profile is set to receive emails and I have added a pop-up notice too. Have you looked in your spam filter?

I had a similar problem Anne. I resolved it, I think!, by clicking "Notify" on everything again.

Smileys are visible when one clicks "Preview" from the quick reply box.

The Quick Reply box is only visible to those who have enabled it in their profiles.

All the settings appear to be correct, and nothing has appeared from the forum in the junk folder. What is the pop-up supposed to do? Actually, it may be OK now because no-one has sent me a pm today...

pop-up is a box with a message that you have a new PM .... it pops up to let you know... I'll send you a PM to see if it works
