Iris from Turkey
« on: May 12, 2012, 10:33:23 AM »
Hello,

this Iris should originate from the Alakabel Gecidi near Akseki. It flowers the first time for me. I got it from an old collector, who was severl times in Turkey decades ago, but in his last years the collection got a little mixed. He gave it to me under the name purpureospatha!
Any suggestions?

Does the spathe actually have purple colouring?
There's nothing listed as such in the BIS "An Alphabetical Table.....of The Genus Iris)

Lesley,

the spatha is not colored purple - but I do not think this has much taxonomic value.
I thought purpureospatha to be close related to schachtii - these plants do not have so intensive yellow colour but are light yellow!
