Great garden - I think I can smell that Rh. 'King George' from here.
All the super primulas make me sad for the variety that we used to have but cannot sustain anymore. Yes, the vine weevils are a problem, but mostly it was the heat- never thought that would happen in Aberdeen.

They also had a good patch of Primula gracilipes - long past flowering - but I think that they make great use of the glades in the woodland area, and being near to the sea, the climate is probably never too extreme.

Thank you John, I'm not experienced in identifying magnolias.  ;D
The garden apperently have a policy of labelling the trees (very accurately, as it is a scientific arboretum), but herbaceous plants are not labelled. The owner thinks that it makes the garden looks like a graveyeard apparently - and you can see his point.
Where the shrubs fall into this system I'm not sure, some of the rhodendrons were labelled, and I recognised Magnolia wilsonii as I have one at home (grown from SRGC seed, and with 4 flowers this year!)

Looks a lovely garden Peter, another to add to my "Must See" list.

You *must* get to Howick Dave - its only a spit away from here so you'll have to drop in for a cuppa if you do....  Here's a few of my pics from the same visit.  They did tell me the name of the anemone in the last photo, but I've forgotten.  It was super, deep blue reverse on the petals.  The pink rhodo was just huge, that's Peter's arm holding it still for me to take a photo....
