I have a nice potted Sciadopitys verticillata, or Japanese Umbrella-pine and its big enough i think to use as a christmas tree .

My question is has anyone done this before and if so how did it cope being inside your house for 20 odd days ?

I guess i might just have to try it for my self. I dont want to kill it as its such a great little tree and is growing much better than i ever thought it would .

Other option is just to tinsel it up and leave it outside  ;D

Haven't tried this with a Sciadopitys, Emma.
But I wouldn't risk it, or any other living tree indoors for that length of time.
I'd do a maximum of one week indoors, after a spell getting it gradually accustomed to higher temperatures and then the reverse to get it prepared for going back outside.  I'd think a Sciadopitys would be 'too good' to risk , really. Better to  tinsel it up and keep it outside on the doorstep, for a classy holiday statement that both looks good and keeps your tree alive.

Sciadopitys are so slow growing it would be such a pit to risk it.
