Primula and Auricula society

Hello all, I have been asked to find out if anyone has and information about the Scottish Primula and Auricula society which was active around 50 years ago some local enthusiast wish to re-form this and if you can help with any info great, cheers Ian the Christie kind.

Hello Ian,

I found on Google a Web Site of SCRAN Trust (a Trust set up to provide educational access to digital material) an Exhibition Report of The Scottish Primula and Auricula Society (I couldn't see a date on it, and it only shows a "thumbnail" on the Site). The Site mentioned that the rights to the Image were held by Dundee Central Library, Local Studies Collection so a phone call to them should tell you if the have the  the report in their records and how to obtain a copy of it.

Although I'm not a member now of the National Auricula and Primula SocietyI have the names of some people who might be able to help and I'll keep you posted.

On the odd occasion I have tried to find out about the National Auricula and Primula Society I always end up with information on a local group. Does a parent body actually exist?

No. There are three geographically based Sections each one working autonomously, viz:-

Do they have anything in common apart from the plants and their titles? Does someone oversee the rules, e.g. the RHS?

No, they function as three Societies each with it's own set of rules and it's not unusual, particularly across Auricula growers, to be a member of all three. It's nice in these staid times to have something quirky"! History below:-
