First attempt at video
« on: August 02, 2014, 10:55:02 PM »

A couple of years ago my good friend and I spent an afternoon at Mount Lofty Botanic gardens and did some filming which I edited into a short movie. I think we learnt a lot and it will be great to have another shot at it and see if we can do a better job, hopefully this spring.

We made a lot of mistakes but it's still worth watching, I think.

I enjoyed that, Jamus - a walk in a beautiful garden, seemingly  alone  on a lovely day strolling through so many great plants - thank you !

Thanks Maggi,  :)  Yes Adelaide has a small population and a smaller percentage of those are actually interested in visiting gardens, compared with the uk I think. Mount Lofty has the advantage of being very steep, so that the higher up the hillside you go the less people you see (and the fitter those you do see). It's easy to get footage of the gardens without people in the shots.

Very enjoyable Jamus; I look forward to the second episode 8)
I was struck by how 'un-Australian' most of the plants were, reflecting the preponderance of exotics in gardens all over the world.

Some nice effects there - must have been fun to put together. A friend in our HPS Group makes similar videos of Garden Visits (and people), put to music. She described once how she does it and it takes incredible patience and detail but the result is very appealing. There must be tremendous scope to make all sorts of videos like these - I've really enjoyed some taken in mountain habitats, and the programme made on Gothenberg Botanic Garden shown a while ago.

I agree with ashley's comment about the Un-Australian-ness of the plantings there, but it is a collection showcasing exotic plants. Of course we're drawn to exotic species from far away lands. Mount lofty botanic gardens has large areas of natural bushland, dry to wet schlerophyl describes it best I think, with lots of native orchids and many other flowering plants indigenous to the Mount Lofty ranges. Of course these seem less aluring than the exoic stuff because it's so ubiquitous here; but I suppose to you it would look very exotic! That's the irony isn't it?

I hope to have time to shoot more video this November which is peak season there.

I enjoyed your video, Jamus.  How long has the Botanic Garden been there?  I don't remember it when I lived in Adelaide 50+ years ago.  Is it my memory that fails me, or is it more recent than that?

Hi Maureen, I looked up the history and it was first opened in 1977, so you're right it wasn't around then. You wouldn't know it was so young walking around. It feels very established. If you ever get back to adelaide I highly recommend it.
