Can anyone identify this plant
« on: September 04, 2015, 04:20:20 PM »
This plant has appeared in the garden. Can anyone suggest an ID? About 3 ft. tall, it is a compositae. The flowers have three petals and smell of honey. At first glance it looks like a Senecio. It is not a native.

I think that  might some sort of Ligularia - nice flower and foliage, anyway.

(I've moved this from the aquilegia thread)

Oh my, yes, I think you've got it, Lori.  I'm surprised to read how bit it  can get!

Thanks Lori, I don,t know where it came from. My neighbours don,t have plants in their gardens like this. Most are covered with concrete or chippings.

I used to have this in the garden. It has fluffy white seedheads, so seed will probably have blown into your gardeb in the wind. It's good for a wild garden, but I found it rather invasive and decided to get rid of it. This took about 3 or 4 years with regular use of Roundup! Beware.

I have binned the plant before it becomes another giant hogweed. In a small garden we sometimes have to be ruthless.
