Dionysia 2015
« on: February 24, 2015, 01:54:52 PM »
Many will be aware of the fine Dionysia grown at the Gothenburg Botanical Garden.
Our friend Johan Nilson (due to be one of the speakers at the SRGC Discussion weekend in October -  book soon, only 10 rooms left!!)  has shared these photos of some of the Dionysias in the GBG.

The pink cast comes from some new lights the GBG are trialling - read more in Ian's Bulb Log[urlhttp://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2014Nov121415787177BULB_LOG_4614.pdf] HERE [/url]

Such a lovely colour. If only it wasn't so damp here... they rot in an instant  :(

It looks like you have both pin and thrumb types, so I imagine you've been out with your paint brush?

Wow, afghanica does well for you kris. I'm watching the seed exchange for these in the hope that one day someone offers up some seed. :)

Maggi I took the liberty of doing a quick colour correction on your image above. hope you don't mind.

No worries, Jamus - it's not my photo, of course, it's Johan Nilson's.

The pink cast given by the  new fancy lighting is  really strong, isn't it?

Yes maggi there are a lot of different lights around these days with there own specific colours. It's a trap for photographers for sure but most modern digital cameras have an auto white balance setting which usually does a pretty good job. I leave my camera on auto WB, laziness and it does the job.

Otto was very kind and propagated a little Dionysia aretioides from his garden for me. I hope it likes its new home...

I got the shock of my life going up through the rock garden this afternoon when I saw THIS!

496259-0  My little Dionysia aretioides is flowering!

I didn't notice the buds developing... it's only a dear little thing but I'm excited and 4 or 5 buds yet to open! I'm thrilled.

Tell me about it Hoy. Makes a nice change from discovering that the neighbours cat has been digging up my flower beds to use as a toilet.
