Gold Leaf Campanula persicifolia
« on: October 02, 2015, 11:49:24 PM »
I was out re-potting some of my Campanulas today and realized that a gold leaf form of Campanula persicifolia does not have a variety name. The foliage is gold and the flowers are a very, very, pale purplish-blue (almost white), at least in our hot summer climate. The flowers may have a deeper color with cooler summer weather. Other than these details it looks as any other C. persicifolia. Any suggestions on a variety name?

Thank you for any suggestions.  :)

It's always nice to find a plant that is new and different.  But you will want to trawl through the RHS Plant Search, which lists 104 named cultivars of Campanula persicifolia  https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/Search-Results?query=Campanula%20persicifolia so you do not pick a name that is already in use.
Almost in Scotland.

Alan,

Thank you for the tip.

I guess I should have added some key information such as this is a plant that I purchased in the Pacific Northwest U.S.A about 20-25 years ago (and lost the tag a long time ago). Most likely it already has a name, I just do not know which one. I will wade through the RHS Plant Search and see if something matches to my satisfactions.  :)  I can always label it as aff. - affinity to blank. I guess I was hoping that there would not be 104 or more names the choose from.

Thank you again for the help.

Alan,

Your tip was very useful. With a bit of research it appears that the variety is 'Kelly's Gold'. This variety is a good match for the plant I have and faintly my memory recalls this name. This is good enough for me. I will label the plant Campanula persicifolia 'Kelly's Gold' aff. until someone can confirm the name for me.

Thank you so very much!  :)
