RHS Bursary opportunity  study in USA

There is a terrific  opportunity for a student or graduate horticulturist, plant scientist or environmentalist, to undertake a fully funded RHS  internship in the USA, starting in September 2016.

The RHS/GCA Interchange Fellowship Programme, applications for which are due by the end of October, is a fully funded programme open to high-calibre British university graduates, (or final-year students), with a degree in horticulture, landscape architecture, botany, plant sciences or environmental studies, and to exceptional British student horticulturists looking for an opportunity to learn about American horticultural practices.

The programme offers a fantastic opportunity to undertake either:

12-month highly structured, stimulating and exciting practical internship in ornamental horticulture at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, or
The first year of a post-graduate course in any field related to horticulture, landscape architecture, plant sciences or environmental studies at an American university.

Student horticulturists without a degree may only apply for the Longwood option.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2015,  with interviews carried out at our HQ in London in mid-November. The successful candidate would be expected to start his/her programme in September 2016.

A previous Interchange Fellow, Alex Summers (a former Kew Diploma Trainee), on finishing his internship at Longwood, secured a job as Glasshouse Supervisor at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.  Alex, who is also now a Member of the RHS Tender Ornamental Plant Committee, said:

“The opportunity to work in the USA and experience horticulture as an international industry has proved to be both personally and professionally rewarding. It provided a different perspective to the training gained in the UK and this has been of great benefit in my current position.”
