From our new SRGC President –

Instructions to the new president

1. Write a message to members for publication in the Rock Garden.

2. Write a message to members for publication on the website.

3. Make the two messages different.

4. Don't miss anything important from either of them.

5. Tell everyone about all the exciting ideas you have for the future.

6. Don't say anything until it has been approved by council.

7. We want your messages NOW.

Our club needs to carry on moving forward, so that we can continue to bring the world of rock gardens and their plants to further generations, in a world that has changed and is changing.
How can we do this, without losing all that is loved at present? I have lots of ideas, this weekend the SRGC Council will be contributing theirs, and I hope that you will let us know about yours. The new structure of working groups, in accord with our new constitution, will allow five groups of people to work on developing and implementing ideas. I hope that members all over the world, not just in Scotland, will be able to contribute, as we are a truly international society. We will keep you informed of progress, but please remember that the club depends on all of its members, not just on a few.
 David Rankin

The SRGC Golden Jubilee Salver is awarded annually to an individual who has given outstanding service to the Club. At the recent AGM  of the Club,  this prestigious award was made to Alan Newton.

Alan is well know to many members, not only as a stalwart of his local Group  but also as an accomplished exhibitor at the Shows of both SRGC and AGS  and as a Show Secretary at both Hexham and Ponteland shows.
His  involvement in these shows, and that of  his wife Brenda and  their  elder daughter Victoria, goes far beyond
the duties of Show Secretary and  it is fair to say these events would be greatly  diminished without  all their  dedication and very hard work.

The Chair of his local AGS Group,  Mala Janes, has written about Alan's success  in a local paper- the Morpeth Herald.....

"Ponteland resident Alan Newton was recently presented with the Golden Jubilee Salver at the Scottish Rock Garden Club’s AGM, which was held in Scone.
This is the first time in its 18 years that this top accolade has been presented to someone in England. Alan has worked tirelessly in promoting alpine gardening to the public and started organising national shows in the North East area in 1994, which he has continued ever since.
In addition, he is heavily involved in organising the Ponteland Alpine Show every year."

Well done Alan and thank you and  congratulations to all the Newtons  for their wonderful efforts  for the Club !
