Attached is poor shot of a snowdrop that has been around here for about 20 years.  I have never taken the time to research it. It is simply labelled Latifolius Group and probably came from Thelma Chapman whose collection went to Don Armstrong and Don gave it to me.

May very well be an old named cultivar.

To my eye the marking looks like elwesii var elwesii. Can you show some leaves?

Mark I knew you would spy those!  Don Armstrong gave me several snowdrops that he had simply labelled 'Latifolius', presumably he meant G. latifolius or ikariae ssp latifolius synonyms of woronowii.  G. woronowii only arrived here recently, cheap and in all the big box stores. I have kept a few inside in pots to compare with these from Don. Don was very generous and gave me countless plants. He'd give me a plant freshly dug from the garden and later you would find cyclamen bulbs, snowdrops, corydalis coming up all around it. Such was a Galanthus resembling these other 'Latifolius' and I have it labelled 'Latifolius Z'. It was in flower today (unlike the others & woronowii) so I shot the leaves and very small flowers (tiny u-shaped mark). The pictures are horrible as it was cold and the fans were howling in the greenhouse. I never went back in to re-shoot. Here they are and I will re-shoot if need be though the high tomorrow is predicted to be -7c (argh)

I'm not sure how variable the marks of woronowii are but do know the colour ranges from very pale to very dark. It's usually a B

The mark was a definite thin, small, upside down U. I tried to pry the flower open and shoot but to no avail. Maybe Saturday will be better for photos.

Mark - Here is a shot of ?Latifolius Z?.

Looks like your woronowii shot.  As you see I was wrong about the mark, only the top is thin.


johnw - brutally cold yet the greenhouse is too warm. At latitude 45 that sun is strong, but not strong enough  - -9c at 1:20pm!

Might as well have these checked by the snowdrop surgeons:

Peg Sharples (ex Germany), gracilis ex anther great Vancouver plantswoman, Vera Peck (flower and foliage / bud) and a Magnet that was once involved in a spill of pots and labels. I think she said it came from a friend in the Czech Republic but it could have been Ruksans.

Mark - You're right but I had change my Peg Sharples photo after posting (it took a few tries) by the "modify' then "save" functions. I see them properly now and hope everyone else does.
