Mystery Linaria
« on: March 06, 2008, 08:16:35 PM »
I have tried to identify this Linaria with absolutely no success, so hoping someone can help.

It was found in Southern Spain growing in bare sandy ground in the Serriana de Ronda.

It is an annual and fairly short (15cm ish).

thanks for any suggestions

Aaron

Linaria petraea? Although the lower lip does not look like that... And the spur is too straight... And I don't know if it grows in Southern Spain... ;D :-\

I've only got a list in Spanish to work with--no photos or drawings--but check Linaria amethystea or L. haenseleri.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far - unfortunately nothing seems to quite match.

Maggi - thanks for the very useful link - this may well help with some of the other plants that I saw!

There one Linaria on Maggi's link which seemed very close to my plant - L. clementei - unfortunately spur length and the fact that that species is perennial were a bit offputting.

Any more thoughts anyone

Try Linaria huteri - endemic to Serrania de Ronda and Grazelema areas.

Thanks for the suggestion, however L. huteri has yellow flowers :(
