Last weekend the Alpine Garden Society held their Annual General Meeting.
Our own new SRGC President, Ian Christie, was delighted to be able to attend and to wish the retiring President, John Richards, well after his term of office and to welcome the new AGS man in charge, President Frank Tindall. Ian was also very pleased to be presented with an award that celebrates someone for whom he has the greatest respect and affection, the famous grower and plantswoman, Kath Dryden. The AGS noticeboard tells us that " The Kath Dryden Award recognises meritorious work and expertise in advancing our knowledge and understanding of the cultivation of a genus or group of alpine plants." It goes on to state that the award has been made to "Ian Christie in recognition of his work with Meconopsis. Ian runs a successful alpine nursery specializing in woodland palnts with a strong emphasis on Meconopsis and also Gentians. He is well known for the work he has done in propagating and breeding most of the forms of Meconopsis grandis and betonicifolia. a number of his Meconopsis have been awarded Royal Horticultural Society Awards of Merit and First Class Certificates."
