Winter protection
« on: October 06, 2017, 05:38:21 PM »
Today, protection with shelter started.
Here in the Netherlands with autumn storms, a lot of rain, and a humidity of sometimes 100% it is good for protection for many rock plants. The moisture in the air is usually enough for the winter period. I can always add a little water.

The moraine has been given his winter cover this week.
The soil can slowly get some drier. The pump is turned off. So that the plants come into a so-called hibernation.
The cover is made of double-walled opaque polycarbonate. There is some light, but no bright sun. (like under the snow ??) Last year the first time done and all plants survive. (fingers crossed for this winter)

Yes, but that's massive 8mm thick. (very heavy). I received it from a neighbor who broke down the covered porch. On the moraine is thin double, which I bought as a remaining party. I have to fix that, otherwise everything can blow away with a lot of wind.

Here's a small overview of the plants.
