AGS NORTH MIDLAND SHOW at Chesterfield 2019

Another excellent AGS Show on Saturday 6th April, this time at the new venue for the North Midland event at Chesterfield in Derbyshire. Congratulations to Chris Lilley, Raymond Hurd and their hardworking team on such a fine display of quality exhibits and superb nurseries selling amazing plants. The Farrer Medal for 'Best in Show' was awarded to a stunning plant of Androsace villosa taurica exhibited by Holmfirth's Geoff Rollinson. It would be hard to top such a meritorious result, but the annual shindig known as 'the Pudsey Pig' was held at 12 noon in a pub local to the show venue and a huge gang of 'piglets' gathered at The White Hart to contest this world renowned event ... an eating contest of monumental importance and significance to the UK alpine fraternity ... it is hard to overstate the prestige and distinction that the 2019 Supreme Pig will warrant and deserve during his twelve month reign and this year's winner was the magnificently built (and fittingly named) John Bunn (already a triple or quadruple winner - his wins are certainly numerous), who consumed vast quantities of food and drink under very close scrutiny. John was presented with a beautiful commemorative card, a suitable prize and, of course, the highly prestigious Pudsey Pig Trophy by the 2018 winner Peter Farkasch. Certificates of Merit were imaginatively awarded to piglets, Diane Clement and Peter Hood. Indigestion tablets were available and medical support was only an ambulance away.
