Colchicum autumnale Seed
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:51:50 PM »
I recall being surprised when someone on Alpine-L posted asking about never being able to find seed on their Colchicum autumnale- they did not know that seed forms IN THE SPRING- AFTER the previous fall flowering.

Although I assume you all know this (having a BULB GOD on board, with a multitude of other bulb gods and goddesses as well), just thought I would post a picture of the early stages of the seed pod formation dead center in the spring flush of foliage.
so many species....so little time

Interesting point that, Kristl.... we have had people ask about the "buds" when they see the plants at this stage, not even knowing that they are Colchicum, so there is obviously some confusion about.  ::)
