Hello,
during my last bike tour with my son around the river Main last Monday I accidentally passed by this old garden in Kleinwallstadt and got immediately fascinated. As I had no camera with me I returned 2 days later in the afternoon and got in contact with the neighbor who worked in his garden and kindly allowed me to take pictures.
The garden was owned and taken care by an 80 years old lady since unfortunately she died 2 years ago. Nobody takes care since then as the closed relatives live far away I was told.
It is a beautiful wilderness...

Armin very nice
I liked the iris as well :)
I believe it might be more speces than just vulgaris but I am not an expert. I love how they mix into new and nice form by them selfs  ::) 8).
I like the vulgaris a lot and in my parents summer house there is a lot. Unfortunlly there is also an insect that destroy the flower :'(.
Here in Portugal in my parents in laws place there is also some and most are doubles. I spread some seeds amongst my iris and they are now coming up. I hope to see some flowers.
I will post some from my parents in laws garden.

Kind regards
Joakim

I found this nice version with mostly inner skirts the outer were gone.
It was also the only one with white. The others on the same plant were pure blue as can be seen on the edge of the picture. Here we have reached the end of the  Aquilegia Vulgaris season now.

Kind regards
Joakim

Thanks for the feedback.
Aquilegia's are spread over Europe, Northamerica and Asia. There are more than 60 specis known.

Unfortunately, the ordinary wild species (A.vulgaris) is more and more disappearing in the wild habitats (forest borders, forest meadows) here in my area due to early mowing before seed ripens. Also the high number of roe deers damage distribution. The like the sweet flowers...
Therfore it is always a great pleasure for me to see beside cultivar hybrids also the wild versions in cultivation.
Best wishes
Armin
