Crocus identification please
« on: June 08, 2021, 10:54:45 PM »
I have a bed that is just full of this crocus in March.  I am successsfully finding seeds and it would be good to get  its 'proper' name !

Hi Rob, I am no Crocus expert. However, in my experience, by far the most common spring-flowering purple crocus in the UK is C. tommasinianus, which naturalises freely in many gardens.
Best wishes, Tristan

Thanks Tristan -  many thanks for that.  Unfortunately my 'bible' shows pictures of specific variants of C Tommasianus, but not the normal one, which the web shows as growing in the manner that mine does.
