Can anyone identify this Erythronium?
« on: January 30, 2022, 11:51:32 PM »

I’m wondering whether anyone can identify this Erythronium for me? I purchased seeds from someone who told me it was E. revolutum. It doesn’t look like any E. revolutum I’ve seen and I can’t find any reference to a yellow form. I’m told that the foliage does have marbling but I don’t have any photos of it.

Any help, much appreciated!

Definitely not revolutum.

Some ways to help identify a species:

Are the leaves plain green or mottled with brown?
Are the filaments of the stamens flattened?
Are there little folded bits at the base of the inner three petals?
Are the seed pods narrow and upright, even until the end of the winter, or are they wider, sometimes bending to the ground?

Thanks for getting back to me Diane.

Unfortunately this sole picture is all I have to go off and I can't get in touch with the person from whom I purchased the seeds! I've sown them and they've had their first season of growth now. I'm just trying to work out which it is... and being impatient as I would love to know what it is before waiting for it to flower!

I do know that the leaves are mottled with brown, in a similar way to E. revolutum, perhaps, hence the seller's misidentification?

The petals are unusually broad.

Almost certainly a hybrid , especially if the leaves are mottled.  No such thing as an unwelcome Erythronium, of course!

I'm not certain; but it looks very much like the hybrid named 'Pagoda' .  See for yourself in the PBS 'wiki'  on Erythronium.
