Lucky enough to have two species of cyrtanthus flowering. C. Flavus (yellow) and the unspellable C. brachyscyphus (Orange).

Hi Paul,

I was recently given 2 seedlings of Cyrtanthus montanus. The bulbs are about 1.5 inches thick through the widest point. Do you have any notion of how close that is to flowering size?

Beautiful your firework flowers.
I only have Cyrtanthus parviflorus which sends up nearly the whole year its firework rockets.
Seeds readily in all other pots if I want it and flowers under nearly all conditions.

Very nice!

Do you know if parviflora is the same as Cyrtanthus brachyscyphus?

This is a synonym of this species or vice versa.
I had the seeds from Botanical Garden Bayreuth.

Funny, mine flower also easily but don't make seeds even if I have three plants grown from seeds. I tried to crosspollinate but it gives nothing yet...

The same thing happened with me the first years.
Several times crosspollinating with the same flowers worked in the end sometimes. Maybe its the timing.
Since 2020 I just shake the flowering stems several times  and have always fruiting 10 to 30%.

I would send you seeds, but sending goods costs here 4.89 € Minimum rate only documents are less than half the price. These seeds are too delicate and fat to be send in a simple letter.
They make "Muesli" out of it, apart from being illegal.

Just shaking the flowers from time to time produces seedstands with me.

The seeds cling some time to the opening pod. Here are 3 already gone.
