Tufa
« on: July 15, 2015, 09:33:15 PM »
During our short holidays in Upper Bavaria we found this interesting place.
The water from a spring with a high concentration of lime flows over moss and
other plants, petrifies them and forms this so much wanted material.
There are several degrees of hardness, plants love the softer rocks, but frost
can easily break these. So a medium degree is a better choice.

If anyone in central Scotland is looking for tufa the aquatic centre below has a large selection. £2.99 per chunk.

Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.
