About the McGregor Saxifrage Study Award

The McGregor Saxifrage Study Award is a relatively new award made possible by a generous donation from the Saxifrage Society and named in memory of one of the  Sax. Society’s founding members, Malcolm McGregor, who devoted much of his life to writing about, lecturing on, growing and studying all types of Saxifrages and was also well known  in the SRGC, having served as Editor of our printed Journal. This award will fund saxifrage-related projects. For 2024, it is announced that the award will be used to fund one work experience opportunity at Waterperry Gardens, near Oxford, where Merlin Trust founder, Valerie Finnis, worked for 28 years. Waterperry is home to two National Collections of saxifrages and the work experience will provide an opportunity to shadow Saxifraga Collections Manager, Adrian Young, for one week in April (8th-12th inclusive). Learn more about the Waterperry Collections:https://www.waterperrygardens.co.uk/saxifrage-collection/
The award will fund travel, accommodation and other associated costs for the duration of the opportunity.  There might also be an opportunity to spend a few days (15th-17th April) at an alpine nursery in North Wales to experience growing saxifrages in a different environment.
