course on the SRGC website.

Growing bulbs for all seasons
Our speaker is John Grimshaw, gardener, professional botanist and writer who has
travelled widely in search of plants. His career in horticulture includes experience of
the Netherlands seed industry, as gardens manager at Colesbourne Park in
Gloucestershire, as Director of the Yorkshire Arboretum and most recently, Editor‐in‐
Chief of Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Plants are his passion and he has grown a huge
variety in his gardens.
11 am 'Small and early'

John talks about growing and using the smaller early flowering bulbs in a normal garden
setting. He’ll cover snowdrops, crocuses, smaller daffodils and a host of other small
plants that can make the garden come to life in the first few months of the year.

12 noon – 12.15 pm Special General Meeting of the Scottish Rock Garden Club
2.00 pm 'Late and large'

In this talk we’ll hear about summer‐flowering bulbs that can add a touch of drama to
the garden. Again, these will be easily‐grown plants, Eucomis to Lilium, Galtonia to
Roscoea, ending with the colchicums in early autumn.

RHS ALPINE & ROCK GARDEN EXPERT GROUP will meet at 12.30 pm
Plants for consideration must be registered by 11 am

Plants and bulbs can be purchased from a variety of nurseries who will be attending
Ardfearn
Jonathan Harris Snowdrops
Hartside
Kevock Garden Plants
MacPlants
and of course our own plant stall.

Display
Members are invited to bring as many pans of dwarf bulbs and early flowering alpine
plants as possible.
Space will be available for cut flowers of plants which members do not want to disturb
in the garden. Please bring your own vases for cut flowers.
Plants will be grouped according to genera during staging between 9 and 10 am.
The rule of one pan per class per exhibitor will be waived. No points will be awarded.
Members may also stage small displays comprising several exhibits to show variation in
species etc.
Every contribution increases the value of the display for others.
Plant sales
Contributions are invited to the 50:50 plant sale and raffle, which will be held to cover
expenses.
Members are asked to help with the teas and plant stall as this day is organised by the
Bulb Group rather than a local group.
