Other Arisaema identif help
« on: April 20, 2008, 06:55:27 PM »
Hello,

a couple of years ago I bought one Arisaema sikkokianum.
Last year it didn't come up, when I poked around a bit I found two bulbs.
I put them in a pot indoors and now they are flowering.
One is a "sikkokianum" but the other one is completely different (see pictures below).
Could anyone tell me which species this could be?

Yes,

they are the same (one picture with a leaf, one without).
The other one (no picture) is a sikkokianum.

Hello,

I can answer my own question:

I mailed professor Gusman (writer of the arisaema monograph)
and according to him it is Arisaema triphyllum forma "Zebrinum"

Is there anyone here who could help me identify this Arisaema?

I got it as a A. griffithii, which I dont think it is. I think it could be A. propinquum.

Johan,

I guess it could be Arisaema propinquum or utile.
Arisaema propinquum has typical ovaries with pale longitudinal stripes (see photo):

Thanks Robin!
It have to wait for it to set seed then I guess! compared with other utile i have seen it looks a lot different.
But I found fruit in India last year that had ovaries with pale longitudinal strips.

Johan,

I think the one from India could be Arisaema jacquemontii which has pointed ovaries with a white stigma.

Robin,

Could be, but the fruit was about 12-13 cm long and maybe 6 cm wide and each fruit containing 8-10 seeds. According to ('the genus Arisaema'
by Gusman) jacquemonti should be much smaller and the seed only containing 2-5 seeds? As I remember it was quite close to the ground!

Maybe I got huge flowering compact form? :)

Maybe you have. I hope you collected some seeds! In a few years time you will know for sure.
