Aquilegia brevicalcarata
« on: March 25, 2009, 04:42:40 PM »
I have seedlings of this species, but can't find a description of it anywhere. It is apparently a woodland species. Does anyone know how high it grows, colour of flowers etc?

You could pay £3695 to go with a tour company to the Altai and find it for yourself in the wild to discover its nature, Anne!  ::)  Couldn't find it in the Kew database  ???

The name is valid, its in Flora of Russia and Flora of China.  As Maggi says, it's from Southern Altai and Siberia.  AGS has listed the seed a few times, but my database doesn't give any further information regarding height and colour, so it's down to you, Anne to find out  ;D

It was AGS seed last year, Diane, so it's all YOUR fault!

I can't wait to see a pic when they flower, I love aquilegias, I hate leaf miners and wee harlequin bugs  >:(

That's when I take up my allotted armchair in the Whitworth Rest Home for the Botanically Impaired ... anyone got any crochet patterns?   ;D

Yep, I thought it might be, when I found it on my database.  It was on the addendum so must have come in late.  I'll do a bit more research

They are still very tiddly, but I will post a pic when they flower - probably next year.

I've found a possible link which I am following up and will let you know if I get anywhere.
