Delphinium identification please
« on: July 30, 2009, 02:30:34 PM »
Anyone grow or know this pretty little delphinium please ... about eight inches tall at present and flowering for the first time?
Many thanks in anticipation.
I must add that the first image is much closer to the actual colour of the flower than the second more 'lurid' shot.

Have you a pic of the leaves? The flower looks like what I have grown before as D.vestitum.

Glorious colour combination, Cliff.  Love the black bee on that beautiful purple. :o
Cheers.

Many thanks Simon and Giles - I would love to post an image of the foliage but there is so little of it that it really wouldn't help.  I am quite prepared to go with your suggestion Simon and thank you for the speedy identification ... no idea where the seed came from - my label states Ranunculus sp.!!! Sown 2006.   :D

No problem. If it is D.vestitum,it is one I grew a long time ago and I am sad to have lost.

The foliage on D. vestitum is quite unusual for a delphinium - almost round, very furry.  Here are a couple of photos, if it is helpful to compare.

Many thanks Lori ... I will investigate and report back, though, as I have mentioned, there is precious little foliage to be seen at the moment.
