Sparaxis elegans and Geissorhiza radians
« on: September 08, 2009, 02:58:58 PM »
These are two species I would like to try again (the first time it did not went well and just left four little bulbs of Sparaxis, that I don't know if they will survive).

To swap I have seeds of:

Freesia Laxa
Habranthus robustus
Ornitogalum narbonense
Freesia viridis

Best regards
Cris

Cris,

If you are successful with the Geissorhiza radians, make sure you set and collect seed from them.  Mine flowered themselves to death, and at the time others mentioned the same thing.  In the right conditions you can virtually get seed to flowering in it's first year (a friend in WA does that easily), whereas in my conditions I find it took about 3 years.  I still have some seedlings coming along that are years old, but I've never repotted them so they have never got to flowering size.  They're a very striking flower when out, that is for sure.
Cheers.

Min winter temp -8 or -9°C. Max summer temp 40°C. Thankfully, maybe once or twice a year only.

Hi Paul, tanks for your answer. I've already had some seeds germinating, but something wrong happened and they rot.
