Seeds from Kazakhstan
« on: November 11, 2009, 09:25:24 PM »
I have received this request from Vladimir Kolbintsev from Kazakhstan:

Could I ask you to help me putting in contact with some people (if you know
some) who interesting in wild flowers, who likes to grow them. It is still
right season to put seeds in soil outside in pots. May be you know somebody
form Rock Garden or Alpine Garden Societies. Reason is that big collection
of wild seeds (my own collection) in good quality and very fresh (many
species of wild Tulip, Iris, Fritillaries and some others including many
dicots, in total about 100 species) already moved in Europe and stored in
Summerset (UK). It is about one friend of mine; his name is Kurt Vickery
(email address: >>  kurt@kvphoto.demon.co.uk  <<). He proposed to be my
distributor in Europe. So, if some keen and interested people will contact
him directly, Kurt will send seed list with conditions of sending. Thanks
for your help!
With very best wishes from Kazakhstan.
Vladimir.

I hope he can tempt some of you to try growing his seeds!

Hello, Hilary,
Welcome to the Forum. Seems years since we saw you... which I suppose it is !

I think we already have a notice ....somewhere in these thousands of pages.... about the venture between Vladimir and Kurt Vickery.... but there is no harm in repeating it.  :)

"Kurt Vickery seed list supplement October 2009

I am delighted to be able to offer fresh wild seed from Central Asia
The Altai  and Mongolia collected by my friend Vladimir Kolbintsev, probably Kazakhstans leading naturalist. It was collected in the Tien Shan and Altai mountains
in Kazakhstan and Mongolia
Most of the collections were gathered in July 2009, during Vladimirs travels,A few collections come from 2008, and were made alongside myself and David Victor during our VV expedition of that year, theses have been refrigerated since then.

Germination of the seed we collected in 2008 including the Junos have been excellent when sown in October of the same season, so I would suggest ordering sooner than later if possible, That advice might be even more important with some of the dicots."
