malvaceae
« on: November 18, 2009, 11:39:56 PM »
Hi at all,

do anyone know this plant?
It should have been Hibiscus syriacus which it is definitly not, hmpf.
I sowed it in early spring. The leaves are soft like Abutilon leafes, but smaller, the flowers emerge from beginning September but they stay closed, only some anthers look out of the flower. It seems to be an annual.
Best wishes,
Renate

It's Abutilon theophrastii, Velvet Leaf.  It's a weedy denizen of cropland and diisturbed areas.
