'Scotland for Gardeners' is the winner of Garden Reference Book of the Year 2009.

Ken will take you through the best of Tayside and Highland Perthshire’s wonderful public gardens, introducing his latest book which is another must for lovers of Scotland’s garden glory.

11.45 am: Alpines Plants for Gardeners with Jim Jermyn

Sponsored by The Scottish Rock Garden Club

In this information packed event, mountain horticulture expert Jim Jermyn will be talking about Alpine plants of the Eastern Alps and their cultivation.

Since 2000, Jim Jermyn has been Show Manager of Gardening Scotland, Scotland’s national gardening show. From 1978 to 1998 he was proprietor of the world famous Edrom Nurseries, specialising in alpine and woodland plants. Jim lectures widely in Europe, Canada and the USA and has written two books for Timber Press:  The Himalayan Garden: Growing Plants from the Roof of the World and Alpine Plants of Europe – A Gardener’s Guide.

Tickets: £6.00

1.00pm: Literary Lunch with Sara Sheridan - The Secret Mandarin

Sara Sheridan is delighted to be returning to Pitlochry, after using the wonderful Explorers Garden as a research base for her new book, The Secret Mandarin.
This thrilling blend of fact and fiction is based on the adventures of the ambitious Victorian botanist and plant hunter Robert Fortune. Having rescued his sister-in-law Mary from a public scandal, the couple undertakes a secret journey to China, ostensibly to secretly collect tea plants for the East India Company.
But Robert has concealed the true reason for this dangerous mission: to spy for the British Government!
A dramatic tale retold by a wonderful writer, this is a rare chance to hear the author discuss the story behind her exotic historical romance.

Tickets: £15.00, includes Bistro lunch and a glass of wine!

3.00pm: Alys Fowler - Backgarden Fruit and Veg
Sponsored by Pitlochry in Bloom
Alys Fowler is at the forefront of the new gardening revolution: a presenter of the BBC`s Gardener’s World, author of several gardening books and a firm believer in
practising what she preaches. In her new book, Backgarden Fruit and Veg, Alys takes up the challenge to prepare at least one meal a day using only home-grown produce.
With a wonderful new approach to growing fruit and vegetables, she transforms her garden into a place where tomatoes sit happily next to roses, carrots are woven between the lavenders, and potatoes share space with the hedge.
Young, chic and urban, Alys is at the forefront of this revolutionary new approach to gardening. She marries the delights of growing your own with the sheer joy of a beautiful flower garden, all in one small space, and is on a mission to demonstrate how anybody can do it. Good for the pocket, good for the environment and hugely rewarding, Alys’s modish edible landscaping will inspire a whole new generation to get digging!

Tickets: £8.00

Apart from geographical impracticalities I found the programme very interesting until I got to the 1500 slot and then went right off it :P
