Edom Mountains - Jordan
« on: February 11, 2010, 06:46:48 PM »
Not every day that one can see snow in the desert.
I just came back from a five days trip to this amazing part of the world.
The most famous site is off course Petra, but i find that the surroundings are not less beautiful.
These mountains are home to many species of bulbous plants including Iris petrana, Iris edomensis and many others.
Tivon, in the lower Galilee, north Israel.

Oron,

Fanastic shots! I love seeing environments that are completely different from mine...well except for the snow. Look forward to seeing more shots.

Thanks Simon and Hans,

The purpose of this trip was mainly for two species, Iris edomensis and Romulea petraea,
the good news is that i have found both, the bad news is that Iris edomensis had flowered probably in early January and was already with young seedpods but I'll post a photo of the leaves which are not less stunning.
I have also seen Bellevalia, Gagea, Muscari, Colchicum, in flower and many other species that will bloom in about a month such as Iris petrana, Fritillaria persica, Iris nigricans and many many others, probably dew to the cold weather they are a bit late to flower this year.

How stunning. Those cat sculptures look so life like.

And the siamese donkeys are a real find.

Thanks for the photos. For me this is a completely unknown landscape. So far from the Norwegian mountains it is possible to get.
Only the snow and the cats that are similar. ;)
