Seems a lot of plants are "locally plentiful".......thanks for the trip, Giles!

I'm glad you like it.
I'm at a loss with the spelling though -
Stewartia/Stuartia (depends if you 'believe' The PlantFinder or Bean, and then there's the Buddleja/Buddleia problem too.
'Stuartia' is really easy from seed, several of the American seed companies sell a wide range of them.
They have crazy bark.
I'm going to have a small forest of them

Yes, a mine of confusion  in these names.... I see that even in 1764 the artist Georg Dionysius Ehret (himself the owner of a pretty nifty name ) titled his watercolour of the plant listed by Kew archive as  Stewartia malacodendron L.....
" in large, painted letters, 'STEWARTIA, Stuartia malacodendron, Catesb. car.3. p.13. tab.13."   
 
The more things change........ eh?

does the Buddleja grows in a wall garden? Or on a southfacing wall? Do you know the origin of these species.
Wonderful pictures of a wonderful place.

It's Himalayan (Sikkim).
At Wisley it was against a wall, but there is one planted out in the open not far from me, and it flowers well.
The book says that hardiness improves as the plant gets bigger.
Mature plants seem to survive -15^oC
