Bulb ID please
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:30:46 PM »
I have posted this question a few years ago, but now I also have a picture of the bulb ( a little elongated as it has worked itself to deeper layers). It grows well (winter) and has increased since collection. One or two long leaves.
It grew in the Cabo de Gata area, SE-Spain. The pic of the seed capsule is as I found it in the field. It had not flowered here, of course..

Narcissus serotinus or N. cantabricus monophyllis comes to mind but I don't think the bulb is from a Narcissus at all? ??? N. serotinus has a dark brown colored bulb... Maybe a Muscari???

Any suggestions? After growing this bulb for three years succesfully, I really am very curious which species it is...

Thanks, Hans

I have an idea it might be a young Dipcadi serotinum.
The bulb is not fully mature yet.

I never would have thought that it could be Dipcadi serotinum, but then I don't know that plant. However, I have some one-year old plants and I hadn't looked at the leaves in detail. Now I did: They look very much like the ones of the mystery bulb! I'm fairly sure it indeed is D. serotinum. :)

Thanks for the info!

Hi Göte, I can't find it. It's in the old forum. But what is it that you want to know?

I have seen it in the wild (Catalonia) and also have a bad picture somewhere so I thought that if you have posted a pic earlier showing the flower, i might be of some help.

Some pix of Dipcadi serotinum taken in February a couple of years ago in the field in Andalucia, a little to the north of Ronda. A rather underwhelming bulb in my opinion and really quite easy to miss in its stony habitat........
