Salix species for ID please
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:35:30 AM »
Can anyone give me a name please for this Salix species. I took a few cuttings today at the local dog park. It grows about 3 metres high and wide and branches just about at ground level. The catkins were almost finished but were about 25mm long, thin and yellowish. It's very pretty especially in a breeze so I hope these will root for me, in water to start with.

Could it be Salix rosmarinifolia, Lesley?
It looks very much like it, anyway.

Thank you for the confirmation, John!
Lesley, any stem of S. rosmarinifolia dumped in a bucket of water will root in no time, believe me!  :)

Thank you both very much. It certainly looks like rosemary, rather a large one. Pity it doesn't have the same scent. :) When I googled, there are a couple of (French) pictures very like mine but some others have a much wider leaf, more like a regular willow.
