I will try the chipping after all as alot of plants can be lost with dripping. Also vine weevil is a problem and at least some pests may be put off with chippings inside and above the compost. Whether 10 mm makes a difference above making it harder for a slug to go across I'm not sure. I will report back to see if slugs decrease a bit as I am new to the idea.
