Sowing seed back into parent pot
« on: July 25, 2007, 04:39:55 AM »
Hello Ian,
I am curious about when you say you sometimes, or often, sow new seed back into the parent pot. Do you do this at repotting time to set the seeds at the depth you prefer? or do you simply scatter the seed on top of the 6mm grit and let it wash in?
Many thanks. I enjoy your efforts immensely.
Len
p.s. Do you have a web site of your artwork for viewing?

Hello Len, and welcome to the forum
Good question.
I normally sow it at repotting time as it is often not until I knock out the corms that I find the seed pods on some crocus.
I plant the corms then I just cover them with compost until I can just see the very top then I sow the seeds at that level before filling the pot with compost and topping off with a layer of grit.
If I am not going to repot a crocus and I have seed I carefully tip the compost out of the pot unti I expose the corms then I add the seed and replace the compost.
Another metod I have employed is just to tip off the gravel layer and sow the seeds there before replacing the gravel.
There is no doubt that the best results are obtained when the seed is sown deep.

I do not have a website for my artwork yet but I fully intend to build one as soon as I have finished re-potting the bulbs. I will make an announcement when it is online.
