White Primula.
« on: April 01, 2011, 07:15:37 PM »
Having seen a nice primrose at Wisley recently (Primula vulgaris 'Gigha'), apparently a white form of the common primrose found in the Hebrides,
I tried to order one - and this is what arrived:
It has very shiny leaves, and extremely large white flowers, the petals deeply notched, slightly fluted, and quite reflexed.
I like it alot.
Isn't this the sort of thing found in Iran etc ??

I think you are quite correct, Giles.... this gorgeous creature, found on the Isle of Gigha, is surely a descendent of P. sibthorpii... and a very nice one at that.

But whether the one you've been sent is correct I'm not sure.

..maybe Wisley's 'Gigha' is mislabelled, then, as their's did look like an ordinary white primrose...
