Prayer for the Day.
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:03:01 PM »
Found this recently whilst looking for something garden related to go with a talk I'm preparing.

The Gardeners Prayer by Dean Hole 1819-1904 (Dean of Rochester, Judge and founder of the National Rose Show)

O Lord grant that in some way
It may rain every day from midnight to 3 am
But you see it must be gentle and warm so that it can soak in

Grant at the same time that it would not rain on Campion, Alyssum, Helianthemums, Lavender and others that you know in your infinite wisdom are drought loving plants.

I will write their names on a slip of paper if you like

And grant that the sun shines all day long but not everywhere;
Not for instance on Spirea or Gentian, Plantain Lily and Rhododendron, and not too much.

That there be plenty of dew and little wind.

Enough worms, no plant lice and snails, no mildew and that once a week thin liquid manure may fall from heaven.
Shelagh, Bury, Lancs.

Indeed, my stockbroker says it's rather thick.

I'm not too sure heaven has anything to do with that John, it's more likely to be bubbling up from you know where :o
