That's google translations for you  ;D  I have noticed that German translations done by google do tend to sound quite flowery and full of imagery - even the translations I've been reading from German online newspapers of reports about my German publishers going into insolvency administration!! Not sure if it's that German writing tends to be rather heavy on flowery language, imagery etc or it's just google, or a bit of both (My German  publishers Eichborn Verlag have, by the way, been bought out of administration by a much bigger publisher, Bastion Lubbe Verlag, so hopefully my books will continue to be published in German after all - huge sigh of relief!)

Re the style of photography used in this book, flowers against a white background, I have read an article by a professional photographer here in Ireland who uses this method for photographing flowers in the wild and he suggests its main use/benefit is that it makes the photographs more usable as a customer can take the image and place it onto any background desired. However, the method is inclined to give images which are soft at the edges, an effect caused, I think, because the images are backlit - a panel, generally of a white perspex material is placed behind the flower and a light behind this so as to give a strong white background. This is inclined to give a glow to the edges of the flowers. The method is often used with the intention of giving a translucence to the petals but if there is any misjudgement in the lighting the edges of the petals become too diffused and lack sharpness.

Perhaps this explains Mark's comment in his original post that the photographs appear to be out of focus.

The snowdrops seem to me to be painted rather than photographed. Yes? No?

Yes, definitely photographs, but the white background does seem intended to give an artistic feel and the impression of a painting. Another very pretty coffee table book, rather than an instructive and practical gardening book. There seems to be a very large market for this kind of book in Germany.

two photos of one plant seems to be a waste when there is room for two photos on one page leaving room in the book for 100 snowdrops.

Does anyone have a idea when exactly that NEW "Snowdropbible" is coming out?

Will it be before 2015 or 2020?

In the meantime i presume we have to do with coffeetable books with nice pictures to talk about ;D
