Shrub in Buenos Aires botanical gardens
« on: March 04, 2012, 07:15:21 PM »
What on earth could this be? It is very beautiful. Photographed last January in Buenos Aires Botanical Gardens. I would not be surprised if it is something from New-Zealand or Australia, but what on earth could it be? It was about 2-3m high. The climate in Buenos Aires is subtropical I would say.  :o ::) :o

Thanks. C. pallidus looks very similar but the leaves in the plant I photographed seems to be much narrower and smaller than in the pics of C. pallidus that I found on the web... Perhaps a different species of Callistemon?

It's been for years known as Callistemon salignus but now in Melaleuca. It is very tough although difficult to blend in (too  open and lax in this climate).
Alberto Castillo, in south America, near buenos Aires, Argentina.

It is Melaleuca lanceolata.
Both Callistemon salignus and C. pallidus have compleetly different leaves.

I would definitely be thinking Melaleuca, as Oron says, but i'm not up on the species enough to know which one.  Looks more petite than the leaves of Callistemon.
Cheers.

Oron is always right -even with australian native plants !
I checked in a nursery that specialises in australian flora and it is Melaleuca lanceolata.
