Holiday advice for scotland/ Edinburgh
« on: February 06, 2012, 10:10:15 AM »
Hello to all,

we want to travel to Scotland at the best time to see trilliums.
We will fly to  Edinburgh and stay for 5 days.
After reading in the forum and the bulblogs, I think that maybe the last week in april should be the best time?

Any advice for gardens not too far from  Edinburgh would be very welcome. We will rent a car.

Thank you very much in advance, Karin

I presume you will be visiting the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. The other suggestion for Trilliums which I recommend to everyone is www.clunyhousegardens.com for some large clumps of Trilliums and many other wonderful plants, allow plenty of time to look round. Best time I should think is 1st week in May. SRGC shows are 21st April -Perth, 28th April- Inverness, 5th May - Glasgow. If you have the time try and include one of these in your trip.
Hope this helps

Susan

P S this year so far is early, so you are maybe right in saying last week in April

Karin

i really like Branklyn gardens in Perth. It is a bit away from Edinburgh, maybe 40 miles. They usually have good displays of Trillium's. Its a really nice garden.
Like Susan said the shows are good fun, so if you could it would be nice to take in one.
Hope you enjoy your stay in Edinburgh and we hear all about it.

Thank you very much for your advices!
The shows are a very good idea - so we can meet other SRGC-members :-)

Unfortunately, we cannot travel later than april, one of our party is expecting her second grandchild  :D
