Variation in Galanthus ikariae
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:53:05 PM »
I know one forum member will know about the variation in G. ikariae so instaed of PMs I'll post here.

This is what I think of as G. ikariae http://www.snowdropinfo.com/galanthus%20ikariae.html but at the AGS Ulster Group snowdrop day last Saturday I bought these. They have pale leaves and a pale mark.

I saw a lovely seeding colony in Devon where all plants has dark leaves, ovary and inner mark

Any opinions?

It's ikariae all right. There are different clones around, some with darker leaves and marks like your website photo which looks pretty typical for what passes as 'Butt's Form' (named after Walter Butt who started the garden at Hyde Lodge near here, eventual home of The Giant Snowdrop Company) and others with paler leaves and marks.

Yes, it is very like as plants from Andros or Naxos, not from Ikaria
