Probably best. In my experience the words "eat" and "Tewksbury" should never be in the same sentence.  :o

OK, I'll bite........explain ???

Well, I won't name the place but it looked fairly impressive (in Tewkesbury terms anyway!) and ordered a rib eye. They delivered what appeared to be (an aged piece of) sirloin, chips swimming in fat and peas in an equal amount of water. Mrs N had scampi, or blobs of some very well fried substance. I refused to eat it, refused to pay for it, and walked out with a manager chappie whispering in my ear that he would have too, and they can't get the staff!

By the way, which laptop did you buy and did you get a good deal?

Hi David, should probably have put this response on the computer thread. Ended up with a Samsung. 15.6" screen, i3 processor, 6gb ram and 750gb hard drive, competitively priced as well.

I know Martin took some pictures but I guess he isn't up yet.

Just a taster Peter Farkasch won the Farrer with a wonderful Campanula zoysii.

A "modest" man Peter, picture 2 shows what he calls his best view ;D

Picture 3 shows the lengths he went to to avoid a picture such as the Bookeroo usually takes of Farrer winners. ::)

Super Campanula zoysii - reminds me always of "Iced Gem"  biscuits - I think that's what they were called. Like Kalmia buds, too :)

Can't think why Peter is so shy.... you'd think with a Farrer to celebrate he'd be happy to have his smile recorded!  ;D

Edit:  Yes, those biscuits are "iced gems" made by Huntley and Palmers....  and there was even a club, with badges, associated with them... amazing what you can discover from a little search to boost a memory....

Thanks Martin- was there plenty on the benches or had the weather taken it's toll?

Maggi, there were some 'ding-dong' battles ::)

David, the weather had clearly had some impact but it was a fine show nonetheless.

I/we were particularly taken by the Campanula pelia, only to find it is monocarpic and you need to disbud for 2 or 3 years to get a reasonably large plant, and then let it flower; then start again with the seed.

The Abies koreana form was just one of 27 conifers on show, in just 2 of the classes. Never seen so many in 1 show.
By coincidence I was at Chenies plant fair the next day http://www.cheniesmanorhouse.co.uk/plant_fair.htm where a stall had a good size plant for £40. Very tempted, but it was bought while I dithered, by one of the members that had shown it at Tewkesbury the day before. So now he has "2"  :( . Should have bought one at Kenwith when I was there in May. http://www.kenwithconifernursery.co.uk/
Super plant fair but few alpine stalls. And it did not rain. Doubt we would have got out of the field if it did. You can see the house and garden on TV often as a location. Search for it on the imdb website.
