Delphinium semibarbatum / zalil
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:32:30 PM »
Does anyone have experience with this plant?  I have successfully grown it, however it was lost in our move a couple years ago.
I have tried since then without any success at germination, all cold frame attempts.  I've ordered seed again from the Archibalds and from another source, Specialty Perennials in the US.
Maybe it should be direct sown in the garden?  Any clues would be appreciated.

I haven't grown or attempted to grow this plant but I'd really like to and I'm sure anyone having Ruksans' book will be tempted. Thanks for mentioning seed sources Linda.

Chilterns also had it earlier in the year.  I'm trying their seed again this winter as well.
I got my first one from seed from Chilterns.  It is not an easy plant to start or to grow, certainly not when you compare it to other delphiniums.  It is hardy in my zone 3 but I think has to be sited carefully.  Well worth the effort though.
