I hope my plants look something like this in 10 years or so ;)  Not to speak of your 40-noser :o

only one rubbish flower stem - so far.

Maybe this plant is tired. When can I lift it and freshen the mix underneath?

Mark, is your plant in a trough? Surely that would be too small a habitat for it? It looks as if it would enjoy a good chunk of woodland. Or is it just a small piece you have taken and put into a new trough? No I now read that it was put there in 2006. So perhaps tired or perhaps just so confined that it's putting everything into staying alive and not into flowering. Like keeping a large dog confined in a biscuit tin. :o

In fact I find it just about impossible to believe that the pictures that started this topic are the same plant in your two trough pictures or that it could grow to that first size in so small a place. If it were not for the trillium flower as well, I WOULDN'T believe it.

Thats so disapointing Mark. I managed to get a plant from Ian Christie so hopefully I will get it to flower next year.

ASAP, or before the summer anyway. You may have to lift everything from the trough and start again with the other things, finding a suitable open garden space for the Pteridophyllum. It will likely come out in a single, congested mat. You can probably cut it into several pieces.

So beautiful plant Mark! It's beautiful even with one flower stem only. It looks like a blooming fern.  :)
