Happy 500th Bulb Log
« on: August 08, 2012, 08:04:15 PM »
Just as relevant, just as readable, and just as essential to any grower of bulbs now as was the very first issue. Many thanks Ian for the time you put into this, many congratulations for achieving 500, and here's to the next 500!

Oh, and I'm worried about that swing. Maureen's been after one for years and I've always said -Ian Young wouldn't have one in his garden so I'm not having one in mine- you've let me down ;D

The BD is out on that swing every dry morning with a cuppa - it has proved a huge success. Somehow we are more inclined sit down for a cuppa on this seat that rocks, rather than just a seat! Very odd but good fun and extraordinarily relaxing!  Just as well it's a two seater or I'd never get on the thing.
It is rather ironic that the othyer seats in the garden, two wooden benches and a couple of granite seats are all  overgrown and/or rotted into holes, so no-one has sat on those for a jolly long time. Now the swingseat is used umpteen times a day, even if only for a few moments at a time.
I think the modern phrase is "chillaxing" !!  :D

David I have always hated the idea of a swing seat but am always open minded and willing to change my mind when the facts change.
One fact this is the first swing seat that did not mind the look of.
Second fact it is very comfy with a wide seat to let me take my feat up and a high back to support your head.
Third fact I am not getting any younger and enjoy an occasional sit down!!

Anne, I think is is Aconitum vulparia I will happily send you seed if you want but be warned in our moist humus rich garden it can be quite a thug  if we allow it to seed too much.

Thanks to you both for such kind remarks.

Thanks for the offer, Ian, but I think I have something similar - it has cream flowers and each stem goes about 2m in various directions! Doesn't flower like your does though, we are probably too dry.

BD calls it A. vulparia, I call it A. lycoctonum.....  six of one and half a dozen of the other , really.  ;)

Smallish creamy white flower with a touch of palest yellow...... carries flowers profusely in starry sprays..... pretty thing - gets everywhere!
